In yet another crazy fan leak for this year, multiple gigabytes of information including source code and other confidential data related to multiple incarnations of the Nintendo exclusive Pokémon video game series have been leaked online. The leak, dubbed “Teraleak”, seems to be the biggest in Pokémon history.
The leaked information is full of easter eggs and insider info including Scrapped evolution methods, unreleased Pokémon, upcoming Mini games, early concepts for upcoming games, an in-house game engine, and concept art along with source code. There also seems to be information regarding Nintendo’s next-gen gaming console codenamed ‘Ounce’. In addition, the docs mention “Gaia” and “Ikkaku” which fans are speculating to be codenames for upcoming games. The hacker responsible for the leak has promised not to ruin any surprises planned for the fans.
Pokemon developer Game Freak confirmed on the 10th of October that they suffered a data breach in August of this year wherein hackers illegally accessed its systems and stole some employee details. The company, however, gave no indication of sensitive data related to the games being breached indicating that this data may have come from a separate breach.
The hacker’s motivation does not seem to be financial, although there is definitely a market for the stolen data.
